  • Her album is called La Serenata

Infante said she received the phone call from about her nomination while she was working and was in shock.

"It’s something that I truly could have never imagined that that could happen," she said. "It's my first studio album."

Infante will be the first to say that while music runs in her family, she didn’t have a glamorous upbringing. In fact, after graduating from UCLA with a degree in ethnomusicology, the Downey native worked as an Uber and Lyft driver, music teacher, and for the city of Downey.

"I worked at the senior center there and I would always sing for the seniors which they would love," she said. "But my boss would say, 'Stop singing. Get back to work."

Luckily, she never stopped singing. Even through the pandemic, she found ways to connect with fans which included posting performances from her front yard on her YouTube channel. She was also nominated for her first Latin Grammy and was invited to perform on the awards show last year.

In addition to her nomination, Infante will also be hosting, presenting, and performing during the Grammys premier ceremony, which will be streamed here.

For Infante, the Grammy nomination is another way to introduce mariachi music to new audiences and future generations.

“It feels like my duty and I think my dad would be most proud of that too," she said.

Infante is proud not only to carry on her family’s legacy, but also share her culture with the world.
