Actress Aubrey Plaza produces and stars in a new quirky indie drama called "Black Bear", following a filmmaker who blurs the lines between autobiography and fiction.

5 Things You Need to Know:

  1. The film is described as a filmmaker's creative impasse, seeking solace from her tumultuous past at a rural retreat, only to find that the woods summon her inner demons in intense and surprising ways.
  2. Plaza began her career performing improv and sketch comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater. She is best known for her starring role as April Ludgate on the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation and later starred in the FX drama series Legion. Her first leading film role was in Safety Not Guaranteed, she then starred in Funny People, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Monsters University, Dirty Grandpa, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Ingrid Goes West, Child's Play, and Happiest Season.
  3. The is Aubrey's first feature film producing credit, but she also produced the TV movie Little Demon, last years Independent Spirit Awards, and a few other projects.
  4. Principal photography took place from July to August 2019 in the Adirondack Mountains in Long Lake, New York. The lake house where it was filmed was powered by solar, batteries, and a diesel generator. The film received the Gold Green-Seal from the Environmental Media Association for being produced sustainably.
  5. When it comes to producing, the 36-year-old L.A. transplant said "I like having that sense of control over a project that I really care about. I don’t need to produce everything but there’s certain projects like this one that I felt compelled to be an active participant in the decision making process."
