Actress Melissa Williams is starring in two BET Tyler Perry series; The Oval, and it's spinoff, Ruthless. Williams spoke to Spectrum News 1 about being blessed to work on two Tyler Perry series. She also said both shows were highly relatable in terms of today's struggles.

Five Things You Need to Know:

  1. The Oval follows the newly-elected U.S. President Hunter Franklin and his family who move into the White House. The soap opera series highlights the personal side and everyday lives of the staff who run the inner workings of the nation's most iconic residence. Williams plays dual roles as Ruth Hartman and Denise Truesdale.
  2. Ruthless is a spin-off of The Oval, and follows Ruth Truesdale as she's forced to play nice with a scandalous religious cult of powerful sex crazed fanatics in the hopes of freeing herself and her daughter.
  3. Both series are shot in Atlanta, Georgia at Tyler Perry's studios. Ruthless was one of the first shows to start back into production following the COVID-19 lockdown.
  4. Williams said the cast were put up in some pretty interesting housing telling us "the houses were so beautiful, they’re actually homes that Confederate generals lived in from way, way back in the day, where my ancestors, slaves built these homes as a first class residence."
  5. Williams also talked about having the entire huge house to herself, saying "when I did Ruthless I didn’t have a roommate cause I think our cast was a little smaller and that was a different experience, cause I’m by myself in this big house with 10 rooms. I definitely said my prayers and walked through the hallways, no, no evil spirits here I had sage, incense and prayers."
