The Cinemax series, Warrior, is in it's second season and will feature director and actor, Dustin Nguyen, reprising his role from season 1. The series is based on an original concept and treatment from the late legendary martial arts superstar, Bruce Lee.
Five Things You Need to Know:
- The series is set during the Tong Wars in late 1870s San Francisco, California and follows Ah Sahm, a martial arts prodigy who immigrates to San Francisco from China. Ah searches for his sister, only to be sold to one of the most powerful tong in Chinatown.
- Dustin Nguyen plays Zing, the new leader of the Fung Hai Tong and Mai Ling's ally.
- Nguyen continues to act and make films in Vietnam full-time. He is best known for his roles as Harry Truman Ioki on 21 Jump Street, and as Johnny Loh on VIP.
- Bruce Lee died when he was 32, shortly before the release of what would prove to be his breakthrough in the U.S., 1973's Enter the Dragon. Nguyen was a huge fans and says "aside from his amazing physique and physical abilities, there’s a depth to him that makes him sort of mythical and legendary and everlasting. There’s a philosopher in him as a human being that craves for self expression he uses to say, total free self expression as an individual and that philosophy and way of living and passion I think a lot of people relate to through the years."
- Nguyen also says Bruce Lee always kept pushing the envelope. "It’s the constant striving to better yourself and for him it was through martial arts and philosophy," he said.
