Two-time Oscar nominee Jackie Weaver plays a very different role, as a conservative church choir director in the new movie, Stage Mother. Previously, she was recognized for her dramatic work in Animal Kingdom and Silver Linings Playbook, but she started her career on stage, singing.

  1. The film also stars Lucy Liu and Adrian Grenier and had its world premiere at the Palm Springs International Film Festival on January 4, 2020. 
  2. The movie soundtrack features 14 songs including Weaver singing the last song on the album, a cover of "Total Eclipse of the Heart." 
  3. With theaters slowly opening and people searching for a lighthearted comedy, the Australian native says, "It’s tragic what’s going on in America and I think to have a film to show you hope is possible in any circumstance is good for our collective psyche." 
  4. Weaver, 73, has at least four other projects on hold during the pandemic, including big screen pictures Penguin Bloom, and I Never Too Late, as well as the TV series, Bloom
  5. When it comes to passing the time during a pandemic, Weaver says, "My husband and I read a lot, we’ve been locked up since the 6th of March and we really don’t go out that much, we walk the dogs, we are kind of coping. I’m eating too much, I’m getting fat."
