EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Season 2 of Amazon's hit showThe Boys has already received much critical acclaim.
The TV series continues to follow a group of vigilantes as they take down corrupt superheroes who abuse their powers. It's set in a universe where those with superpowers are recognized as the heroes.
5 Things You Need to Know:
- New Zealand actor Antony Starr, 44, plays "Homelander," the extremely powerful leader of "The Seven." Beneath his public image as a noble hero, Homelander is arrogant and sadistic, and cares little about the well-being of those he professes to protect.
- Starr tells us that no character in this series is ever safe from being killed off, including his. "He’s the strongest physically in the show and the most dominate physical presence in the show but he is by far and away the weakest character in the show," said Starr. "The way TV is made now, everyone is expendable, there’s no show that can’t kill their lead anymore."
- In October 2019, Nielsen announced it had begun tracking viewership of Amazon Prime programs. It said The Boys had attracted 8 million total viewers in its first 10 days of release, making it one of the most successful original programs on Amazon Prime.
- Ahead of the second season premiere, on July 23, 2020, Amazon renewed the series for a third season.
- Principal photography for the second season took place from June 17 to November 13, 2019 in Toronto. Filming for the third season is scheduled to begin in 2021.
