Andy Garcia plays a priest in the new drama Words on Bathroom Walls, the story of a teenager coping with paranoid schizophrenia. Based on the hit teen novel of the same name, the veteran actor took the supporting role in hopes the film will be speak to people facing similar challenges.
"If the movie helps one person, one child, one adult who helps them deal with a child who has a friend, that’s a win-win," Garcia said.
The star has been busy lately with several film and television roles including this feature, the musical sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, and recent supporting roles on a few television series. Garcia takes pride in choosing projects with messages he can relate to as a parent.
"We as parents always feel we are doing the best for our kids or give them a certain kind of advice or jump in when we shouldn’t jump in," he said. "But at the end of the day, if you approach it with a sense of humanity and a sense of goodness and help to understand, hopefully like in the movie, you are on the same team with that person and you work through the bumps and grinds of the relationship, and hopefully you contribute to a better finale."
