REDONDO BEACH, Calif. -- In Redondo Beach, the break wall has been a popular hangout spot for locals. It even inspired one musician’s music.

Tomorrows Bad Seeds’ song, "Rolling In" was written by Moises Juarez as he was sitting on the break wall. At the time, a back injury left him on the rocks while he watched his friends surf.

“I came here and I just started writing lyrics, you know, just thinking about the songs and watching the waves roll in watching everybody surf and just being bummed out that I couldn’t surf at the moment. But you know a lot of different things spark inspiration, you know, but this break wall is definitely magic,” Juarez said.

Juarez said he loved music since he was a child and knew he was destined for a career singing and writing songs. Now, he’s made a career as a musician and lead singer of Tomorrows Bad Seeds. On average, his band tours coast to coast, most of the year. It’s an outlet that led him away from a dark path.

“Music has saved my life, for sure. I could have gone the other way, you know. Being that I have a whole bunch of cousins that used to be in gang-banging and all that. It’s obviously not a route for me. Once I was introduced to surfing and really the beach life. It’s like how can you go back? That’s a drug within itself,” Juarez said.

That’s why he keeps coming back to the break wall. It’s a place for him to get inspired and stay grounded when he thinks about how far his music has come.

“We’re making something out of thin air. Just air. Being processed and circulating and creating goosebumps and feelings you know the little piece of magic that’s still left,” Juarez said.

Juarez said he will always be grateful for the Redondo Beach break wall and his band’s newest gig, playing on Saturday May 4th at this year’s BeachLife Music Festival.
