LONG BEACH, Calif. — Several hundred pro-Palestinian protesters gathered on the campus of Cal State Long Beach Thursday in what was planned as a daylong demonstration.

There were no immediate reports of any violence or arrests in connection with the gathering, although the Daily Forty-Niner campus newspaper reported some minor confrontations with students frustrated that the protest was partially blocking access to the Brotman Hall building.

The CSULB Police Department urged students and staff to avoid the area of the protest if possible.

“Be advised protest activity near Brotman Hall may continue into the evening,” the agency posted on social media. “Continue to use caution if you are in the area.”

The Forty-Niner reported that the protest was expected to continue until 7 p.m., with participants using chairs and tables to block a pathway between Brotman Hall and the College of Business. According to the paper, protest organizers handed student participants masks and a list of guidelines that instructed them to only shout chants that were included on a “chant sheet.” They were also instructed not to speak to the media, provoke counter- protesters or engage with police and university administrators, the paper reported.
