DOWNEY, Calif. — Gov. Gavin Newsom’s education plan includes offering transitional kindergarten for free to all kids.

Educators say this will add thousands of positions in the education field, but they also say there may not be enough people who want to help fill those teaching positions, as well as the ones already unfilled.

James Chin is an undergraduate physics major who says he wants to become a teacher. He attended a teacher recruitment event in Downey hosted by the California Center on Teaching Careers.
