Humberto Hurtado has cleaned schools at Arcadia Unified School District for 29 years. For the first time, he’s using a green peroxide multi-surface cleaner and disinfectant approved by the Environmental Protection Agency that has been proven to kill COVID-19 in 30 seconds.

Hurtado said he feels wiping down desks and common surfaces is even more critical.

“We gotta keep the kids safe,” Hurtado said.

Keeping classrooms clean isn’t just an inside job. Facilities staff have also been opening outside vents and replacing air filters, so classroom air is clean. Manager Gabriel Santos said clean air is part of keeping kids safe.

“COVID is out there, and so we want to ensure the safety of all of our staff and students now that we’re back in school,” Santos said. “We implemented this regimen into our daily procedures, and it’s just important to keep our staff and students safe.”

Classrooms also have hand sanitizer stations that are refilled each day.
