FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. — The Community College Review has named Coastline College No. 1 in diversity among California community colleges. For its 2021 diversity rankings, the peer-reviewed academic journal analyzed student data from 1,700 community colleges nationally, 115 of which are in California.

Coastline’s diversity score was .83 compared with the state average of .73 and a national average of .51. The diversity score reflects the chance that two students who are randomly selected would be members of different ethnic groups.

Scored from 0 to 1, a number closer to 1 indicates a more diverse student body, the Review said. Other top California community colleges for diversity include Berkeley City College (with a score of .82), Los Angeles Film School (.82), College of Alameda (.80), and Laney College (.80).

Based in Fountain Valley, Coastline College operates three campuses in Orange County — in Westminster, Garden Grove, and Newport Beach — and also offers online learning.
