LONG BEACH, Calif. — Most kids still aren’t physically going to school. However, there is a way for them to go to what is perhaps the most popular class.
The location rotates for the Mobile Recess program. When the program comes to a neighborhood, it shuts down streets so kids can spread out and play outdoors.
It's a program sponsored by Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine that brings games and crafts out to neighborhoods where there aren't parks or outdoor activities nearby. There are 10 locations and the program is open to kids ages 5 to 14.
The kids have the entire street to play on. Parents can reserve a spot or just walk up and drop off if there’s room. There are 24 slots for participants per location.
The Mobile Recess program is free and is funded with CARES Act dollars.
