PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (CNS) — Three school districts in the Coachella Valley Friday reported a combined 1,654 active COVID cases among students and staff.

The Desert Sands Unified School District, Palm Springs Unified and Coachella Valley Unified reported the number of active COVID cases among students and staff on their online case tracker websites.

All three of the districts’ trackers are live documents, updated daily.

Once a case is no longer considered active, it is removed from the district’s tracker. Cases are added to the dashboards within 24 hours of verification, according to the websites.

According to DSUSD’s tracker, 607 students and 129 staff members across 34 schools tested positive for COVID-19 for a total of 736 cases, 613 less than last week’s 1,349.

La Quinta High School had 41 active student cases and 13 active staff cases, the most of any school in the district as of Friday. According to the district, all 34 schools listed on the dashboard had active COVID-19 cases.

The PSUSD online case tracker listed a total of 497 students and 79 staff members across 27 schools that tested positive for COVID-19, a 576 case total. That total number is 914 less than the previous week of 1,490.

Rancho Mirage High School had 68 confirmed cases among students and 3 among staff, the most of any school in the district as of Friday.

According to the district, all of the 27 schools listed on the dashboard have active COVID-19 cases.

CVUSD reported 267 student cases and 75 staff cases across the district’s 23 campuses totaling 342, an increase of 50 compared to last week.

Desert Mirage High School was reported by the district to have the most cases, with 34 students and nine staff testing positive. According to the district, all 23 schools listed on the dashboard had active COVID-19 cases.

DSUSD overall had the most cases. DSUSD returned to class from winter break on Jan. 3, while PSUSD and CVUSD returned from winter break on Jan. 10.

All three districts have their own set of COVID-19 protocols that include wearing masks indoors regardless of vaccination status.
