In trying times, sports can serve as a distraction. But they can also connect and inspire, as evidenced by Nick Ansom, who is known by his artist pseudonym Nico Naismith.
Naismith grew up in an area with no local basketball courts, but still was inspired by basketball stars like Michael Jordan.
"The first court that I played on was one that I built," he said.
Now, with help from friends, Naismith builds artistic yet functional basketball hoops to place around Los Angeles neighborhoods. They call themselves "The Hoop Doctors."
They are using their platform to help in the Black Lives Matter movement as well, driving around a school bus which they named "The Hoop Bus."
"This is what we do. Spread love, basketball, music, art, Black Lives Matter."
