“The Underpinning” is a commissioned collaboration between Chilean-born, LA-based artist Rodrigo Valenzuela and Clockshop with support from The National Endowment for the Arts, the California Arts Council and the Pasadena Arts Alliance, with additional support from the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture.
This installation consists of 75 concrete blocks designed and manufactured by Valenzuela, mimicking the foundation of the artist’s public housing childhood home in Chile.
The installation at LA State Historic Park also serves as a stage for public programming and discussions about housing a green spaces in Los Angeles.
