LOS ANGELES — Austrian artist and impresario André Heller had a dream to build an art amusement park, bringing together some of the top international artists of the day including Salvador Dali, David Hockney, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kenny Scharf, Sonia Delaunay, Keith Haring, Roy Litchenstein and more.
The Luna Luna art park appeared in Hamburg, Germany in 1987 and then disappeared — until now.
Over 30 years later, a consortium of partners, including Drake’s DreamCrew entertainment company, restored and resurrected the park. It had been in storage outside of Austin, Texas, and is now in Los Angeles before traveling to other cities.
Only a portion of the original pieces are on display currently. As conservation and restoration teams continue their work, the theme park will grow.
