LOS ANGELES — When Eric Brightwell moved to Los Angeles from Iowa about 20 years ago, he was amazed how the second largest city in the U.S. was, really, just a collection of smaller cities.

Having always been fascinated with maps, Brightwell made it a hobby to chart every city and neighborhood he visits in the LA area.
