LOS ANGELES — Officials from LAX have commissioned seven artists to create video art installations that will be shown at some stops along the Automated People Mover.
They were asked to capture “movement” in one form or another for their projects.
Diana Thater, who has created these types of displays for several decades, says she is focusing on California’s native butterflies and plants for her pieces.
Sarah Cifarelli, LAX’s art program director, says public art in transit areas enhances the space for millions of travelers.
"It provides the first impression of our city, and it shows that our city is a vibrant metropolis that cares about the arts," she said. "And also, it helps to mitigate some of the stresses that passengers experience during travel."
