EL SEGUNDO, Calif. – Diabetes affects 30 million Americans, according to Spectrum News 1 national health reporter Erin Billups.

The number of people with diabetes continues to increase nationwide. The cause is due to lifestyles and eating habits.

Billups talked to The Beat on 1 about when we eat what we want quickly in terms of process foods with high fats, it hurts the pancreas.

While Type 1 diabetes is something people are born with, Type 2 diabetes can develop at any point in life. However, Type 2 can be reversed.

Ways to reverse Type 2 diabetes involves a consistent diet change. By eating plant based foods you can turn those numbers around, says Billups.

“It can be prevented, you can change it,” said Billups.
