INGLEWOOD, Calif. — As the Los Angeles Rams prepare for the big game, some Inglewood residents are already concerned about Super Bowl traffic.
LaToya Jones is known as “Toya on the move” because she’s always on the go. It’s also the name of her nonprofit, which helps the homeless.
“Sundays, I give out to our homeless encampments, and I make sure we have everything we need for them,” she said. “So I have to go get the supplies.”
Jones drives each Sunday to her storage unit on Prairie Avenue, which is on the same street as SoFi Stadium. Traffic along major boulevards can be slow for miles on game days. Fans waiting to get into the stadium have taken an hour to drive just four blocks.
Tiara Wilson lives in the Renaissance Community next to SoFi, which is a gated community with only one way in and one way out. Traffic blocks the only entrance, and she has been stuck in traffic many times trying to make a left into her community.
“I just want to go home,” Wilson said. “I’m not trying to cut the line trying to go to the event. I just want to go home. It’s the only way in.”
Wilson receives traffic alerts about stadium events and tries to plan around them, but it’s still easy to get stuck.
“Super Bowl is coming up. Not leaving the house that day,” Wilson said.
Parking is another issue. With off-site parking prices as high as $300, some fans are finding side streets to park on, even though signs are posted and street parking times are limited.
Jones takes back streets to get to her storage unit. It can take an extra 15 minutes to get there, which isn’t bad, but she would like the city to be more considerate of residents.
“Making it more for the tourists and less for the people,” she said.
Even with the extra traffic, Jones will still be on the move on Super Bowl Sunday.
“I have to do it. I have to be out here to make sure people get what they need. I am a vessel,” she said.
Super Bowl LVI will be held at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood on Feb. 13.
