LOS ANGELES — In an 8 to 1 vote, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a federal law on Friday that states banning domestic violence abusers from owning a gun does not violate the second amendment.

With the ruling, people with a domestic violence restraining order against them temporarily cannot own a gun. It was a near unanimous decision, with only Justice Clarence Thomas dissenting.
