LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted to close Men’s Central Jail in 2021, citing antiquated and deteriorating conditions.

Two years later, deaths across the county’s jail system are on the rise, and there is now a timeline to close the jail.

Supervisors Hilda Solis and Lindsey Horvath have introduced another motion to move forward with the closure of the jail without a replacement facility.

The jails’ security captain said he doesn’t think the county can close it without building a new facility.
