BALDWIN PARK, Calif. — Ismael is one of the ten migrants who arrived Tuesday morning at a church in Baldwin Park, after being released from Adelanto’s Detention Facility, where he spent over three months.
He said he left Venezuela at the start of the year because of the country’s political unrest, poverty and organized crime.
After six months of trekking through the deadly Darien Gap from Colombia to Panama, crossing Central America and Mexico to reach U.S. soil, he feels a sense of relief as he finds refuge at this church that provides shelter and food for migrants like him.
