LOS ANGELES — Early voting is underway for the special election race in Los Angeles’ District 6 to replace former Council member Nury Martinez, who resigned amid a leaked racist audio recording scandal that rocked City Hall last October.
Voting centers in the San Fernando Valley aren’t seeing a lot of foot traffic, and turnout is expected to be low. Only 11.40% of registered voters in District 6 turned out for the primary election of this race back in April. Experts believe voter distrust in city government, especially amid back-to-back corruption scandals in City Hall in recent months, may be affecting the race as well.
