LOS ANGELES (CNS) — Mayor Eric Garcetti promoted Daniel Tarica, the interim general manager of the Department of Cultural Affairs, to the permanent post Wednesday.

Tarica has worked for the city for over 20 years, according to the mayor’s office. He will oversee programs and services managed by the department, as well as build relationships with cultural nonprofits, artists and other city agencies.

“Daniel is a leader with a track record of delivering and increasing access to art, music and culture in every corner of Los Angeles,” said Garcetti, who leaves office in less than two weeks. “I commend Daniel’s efforts to help raise funds and resources and look forward to seeing what he does to deepen the work of the Department of Cultural Affairs, cementing our city’s role as the creative capital of the world.”

Tarica has been serving as interim general manager since January, according to his LinkedIn page. He led an effort for $4 million in grant investments, providing 3,000 residents with jobs in the arts industry, according to the mayor’s office. The department has also supported over 1,000 art events under Tarica.

Tarica said in a statement that he is honored and thrilled to lead the department.

“In partnership with the department’s dedicated and talented employees, we will continue to engage LA’s residents and visitors through the arts and ensure our city’s diverse cultures are recognized, acknowledged and experienced,” Tarica said.
