EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Gov. Gavin Newsom got a show of support on Thursday from President Joe Biden, who issued a statement urging Californians to oppose the Sept. 14 recall.

Newsom "is leading California through unprecedented crises," the statement said. "He is a key partner in fighting the pandemic and delivering economic relief to working families and helping us build our economy back better than ever. He's taking on the climate crisis and standing up for the rights of women, immigrants and the LQBTQ community."

The governor “knows how to get the job done because he’s been doing it,” Biden said of his fellow Democrat.

Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are expected to take active roles in the campaign, including possible in-person appearances, according to reports.

Twenty-four Republicans are on the recall ballot, including talk radio host Larry Elder, former San Diego mayor Kevin Faulconer, businessman John Cox, state legislator Kevin Kiley and former congressman Doug Ose.
