GLENDALE, Calif. — You can often tell a little about who lives inside a home by what's on the outside: signs, flags, decorations, or even landscaping.

In Glendale, one neighbor's controversial Halloween display has his whole neighborhood talking.

Halloween is Jack Shirvanian's favorite time of year, and with the holiday falling days before the 2020 presidential election, the proud Republican wanted to loosen some of the political tension.

He added huge Trump 2020 banners to complement his Halloween display of politically punny gravestones carved with his political opinions and disapproval for Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, and California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

One gravestone read, "What's worse than COVID-19? Biden-20."

There's even a cage with dolls inside with a sign asking Joe Biden who built the cages.

Shirvanian is a pro-America Trump supporter living in a Glendale neighborhood that, at least from a street view, predominantly supports the Biden-Harris ticket.

"When my neighbors ask me why am I voting for Trump, I tell them I'm not necessarily voting for Trump, I'm voting for America," Shirvanian said.

Dan Perry lives down the street from Shirvanian, and he's also not afraid to share his political opinion.

Perry admits he can no longer relate to his neighbor because they have drastically different ideological perspectives.

"It doesn't make him a bad neighbor," Perry said. "He's a very nice neighbor, very friendly. But it definitely changes your opinion of someone based on something like [support Trump]."

Shirvanian's political views have distanced many neighbors and scared away a few friends, he said.

Even worse, he said, is being prejudged and mislabeled as a racist.

"It's very scary to come out and say you're a Trump supporter," Shirvanian said.

Beyond his daring decorations or the outcome on November 3, Shirvanian said he doesn't want to be defined by his vote. What's most important to him is being a good neighbor.

"We are neighbors. We are human beings," he said. "We support one another in tough times."
