DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES - With two professional soccer teams in the Los Angeles Galaxy and Los Angeles Football Club, it's safe to say the sport of soccer has made itself an integral part of Los Angeles sporting culture.

Now it's making its way into the underground scene, thanks to group called the Association.

It's a DTLA-based soccer league that's headed into its second season. The league brings together teams representing different companies and brands, like SpaceX or Guess, to compete against one other in futsal, a form of indoor soccer played on a hard court with smaller sides and a special low-bounce ball.

The Association's teams are made up of people who work for notable brands and local tastemakers. While the league itself is about the sport of soccer, the Thursday night games are made to create a dynamic space for soccer fans.

“Guess as a brand, we’re paying really close attention and we’re 150 percent sure that in the next couple of years, Los Angeles will be more of a soccer city than anything else," said Christian Ferretti, a senior designer for Guess.

The weekly event is free to attend. Every event includes live music, performance art, a barber, food, and alcohol. The goal is to create a social environment and heighten the soccer culture that's building in Los Angeles.

“It’s not just about the sport itself," said Chris Baris, a social media influencer who plays for the Beats by Dre team. "But we can also discover new brands. It's perfect because it doesn’t just have the aspect of soccer.”

The real value also lies in the score for brands and attendees, who are able to come together and network — all while embracing the full potential for soccer in the city.

The Association is headed into Week 7 of its 10-week schedule. Games take place beginning at 8 P.M. at the Base in Downtown Los Angeles.
