TEMPLE CITY, Calif. -- Award-winning problem solvers at Temple City High School have a big problem to solve: raising $22,000 before the end of May.

Two teams from the high school have qualified for the Odyssey of the Mind World Championship competition, but they need to raise $22,000 in order to attend.

“We have always been able to go to state, which is the level before worlds, and this year it’s an amazing opportunity to finally be able to fly to Michigan and compete for our school,” Felix Liu said.

This is the first year a team from their school has qualified for the big show.

Their advisor helped them start a GoFundMe page, get corporate sponsorships, and host fundraisers at school. But they still need to raise roughly $8,000.

“We’re asking all our family and friends to donate anything they can,” Jeanette Johnson said. “Five dollars, $20 dollars, $50 dollars, anything that can be spared.”

They need to raise the money before the world finals which take place May 22-25 in Michigan,, where they will compete against teams from over 20 countries.

“Worlds has always been a dream of ours,” said Felix.
