Every fan has a story at Dodger Camp; a reason why the Los Angeles Dodgers mean so much to them.

One family, the Blacks, are here hoping to get Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts’ autograph.

  • Dodgers fans who flock to spring training have varied stories to tell
  • One couple met here four years ago, and now are married with kids
  • Another fan dyes his beard blue to help raise money for kids with cancer

Unfortunately they miss out, but it's okay, because Camelback Ranch is really more like cloud nine for them.

They fell in love here four years ago, and now their annual trek to Glendale is a reminder of their love for the Dodgers . . . and each other.

Rick Black usually chooses the bleacher seats, but it’s his wife Lori’s choice today, and she chooses right behind the Dodgers dugout.

They first came to Glendale four years ago. Rick was coaching Lori’s son’s baseball team after she had moved to Agoura Hills from New York. And on a trip to spring training, he took a chance.

“Here we are four years later. He held my hand when we were walking to the seats. I almost passed out. And it’s been history from there. Four kids, four dogs, house, suburbia, two cars,” said Lori.

It was a match made in Dodger heaven.

And while the Blacks are more about the tell, fans like Jose “Blue Beard” Lara are about the show.

He’s got “Blue Beard” on everything. He started dying his beard blue about seven years ago.

“I have to dye it every four days. It’s a bit intense, but in order to keep the perfect blue it has to be every four days,” said Lara, who most people refer to as just, "Blue."

But there is a story still. He’s a veteran from Montebello, and his recognizable beard comes in handy with his favorite player Justin Turner, who he says always recognizes him.

Blue Beard’s tricked out cane -- which he uses because of injuries he suffered in the Army -- can take selfies, but in reality, he's actually selfless person.

His fandom is in part because he’s a member a fan group, DODGR’D UP, which raises money for kids with childhood cancer.

“I just want there to be an awareness that we have have children out there who are suffering,” he said.

They give a lot to the Dodgers out of their love for their team, but as Blue Beard says, they get so much more in return.
