LOS ANGELES, CA – A beach hazard is in effect for Los Angeles beaches through Sunday afternoon.

  • Beach hazard in effect for LA beaches
  • Increased risk of drowning
  • Strong rip currents can pull people out to sea

Surf is expected to be elevated between four and six feet with strong rip currents along west-facing beaches.

Swimmers and surfers are warned that there is an increased risk for drowning in the ocean during the hazard. Strong rip currents can pull people out to sea.

Small boats are also at risk of capsizing due to large breaking waves. People are warned that the large waves can cause injury and wash people off of beaches or rocks.

If you are ever caught in a rip current it advised that you relax, float, call for help, and move towards the shoreline. People should never try to swim against the current.
