Ever since he was a young boy, Mark Minevich had a love for technology. At a science fair in high school, he impressed the crowd with creating a program that could hypothetically predict how long a person would live, and when the Commodore 64 computer was released, that was it.
He knew a career in technology was his lifelong purpose.
“Technology for me, at that time, was everything when I was growing up," Minevich said. "But over the years, I realized technology is only 5, 10% of the equation. And this is why I said, ‘I'm going to break this mold.’”
Today, as a founding partner and chairman of Going Global Ventures, Minevich is a leading expert on artificial intelligence and a highly regarded Digital Cognitive AI Strategist.
In the latest episode of "LA Stories with Giselle Fernandez," he shares why he believes that AI should be embraced by humanity, not something we should be fearful of. Minevich quotes a study that says while nearly 300 million jobs may be replaced by AI, 450 million new jobs will become available because of it.
Minevich stresses that without humans, there is no AI. It needs to be human-centric.
“I think that AI serves a purpose to make sure that we have a better quality life, that we could support ourselves better, that we free up ourselves from things that are routine, that take a lot of our time,” he said.
In his latest book, "Our Planet Powered by AI," Minevich shares actionable ways everyone can incorporate AI in their daily lives, both personally and professionally. He points out that AI is able to be used to help the ecosystem, health care systems, economy and urban planning.
With the advancement in technology comes an increase in jobs, he says, and that is something that should be celebrated.
“AI allows us to look at so many combinations that the human mind is not able to do,” he said. “This is an incredible revolution and transformation, and so many things are possible, but we have to take charge of this future."
