LOS ANGELES — Though President Joe Biden won the Michigan Primary with over 80% of the vote, there are signs of concerns for his campaign following a protest vote campaign over his handling of the Israel-Hamas war.

A coalition of ceasefire supporters launched a protest vote campaign by voting “uncommitted,” which gained over 100,000 votes, far surpassing the organizers’ goal of 10,000 votes.

Peter Hamby, host of Good Luck America on Snapchat and founding partner of Puck News, joined “Inside the Issues” host Amrit Singh to discuss the Michigan Primary and to look ahead at Super Tuesday.

In the 2020 Presidential Election, Biden won the state of Michigan by a little over 154,000 votes.

“100,000 votes going to ‘uncommitted’ as a protest against Joe Biden is another example of Democratic enthusiasm for Biden not being great,” Hamby said.

Hamby adds the protest vote result is a sign Biden has more work to do to reach the college-aged and Black votes, which were two pillars of his campaign back in 2020.

On the Republican side, Donald Trump won the Michigan primary receiving 68% of the vote. Nikki Haley remains in the race, despite failing to win in any of the primaries so far.

On Super Tuesday, most states will hold closed Republican primaries which Hamby says strongly favors Trump.

“Exit polls in all these primary caucus states show that Republican voters — pure Republican voters — do not like Nikki Haley,” Hamby said. “There are about 900 delegates available for the Republican nomination on Super Tuesday… [Haley’s] going to get wiped out.”
