In this week's In Focus SoCal, host Tanya McRae explores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on tenants and landlords, as well as the unhoused. She speaks with State Sen. Steven Bradford about the "COVID-19 Relief Act," which provided some protections to tenants and small landlords struggling to make payments during the pandemic. Bradford also talks about another legislation he wrote to help some renters in California improve their credit scores when they make rent payments on time.
McRae also talks to an Inglewood resident and landlord concerned about gentrification in her neighborhood and rising home prices due to the new $5 billion SoFi Stadium that opened in September.
Then, L.A. City Councilman Bob Blumenfield talks about the success of a pilot program he launched in the Valley that houses those living under the 101 underpasses in his district. He also gives an update on the Canoga Park Bridge housing that is scheduled to open by the end of the year, as well as a cabin community in Reseda. State Sen. Ben Allen also joins In Focus SoCal for a conversation on how the California Voter's Choice Act helped prepare the state for an election amid the pandemic.
