LOS ANGELES — With events happening all over the city of Los Angeles, summer can be an exciting season.

Within Japanese communities, summer also means Obon season — colorful block-party style community gatherings that honor their ancestors.

Spectrum News attended the Obon at Venice Hongwanji Buddist Temple, where their celebration drew hundreds from the community.

Obon season begins in June and runs through the first weekend of August. This year, Obon season is concluding with the Gardena Buddhist Church.
