ANAHEIM, Calif. — Brett Lawrence can’t walk through Towne Park Brew Co. without being reminded of his dad.

That was his intention.

“It’s a part of me in 2005 my dad passed away from Alzheimers. And for me being the youngest son of all the siblings, I had to figure out my legacy," Lawrence said.

The name of the brewery comes from an old Route 66 sign his father found at a swap meet.

Lawrence, who you could call the "Towne Mayor," follows in his dad’s footsteps. Rick was a former Newport Beach developer, and the Lawrence family came into running Orange County's private resort and zoological gardens, Rancho Las Lomas.

While the father passed on the art of hospitality to his son, beer wasn’t necessarily their thing.

"But what we did do was a lot of Myers' and coke," joked Lawrence.

With a motto like "Your town, your beer,"  Lawrence built his brewery with a sense of community in mind.

In addition to bottling, canning, and kegging for Towne Park, the brewery also fills private labels and has a taproom open Thursday through Sunday.

"I mean he'd be proud I think. Because everyone is trying to live out their legacy, you know who are you on this planet?" he said.

Perhaps the biggest Lawrence legacy will be one of fatherhood.

This will be Towne Parke’s fifth Father’s Day, but it will be the Towne Mayor’s first as a dad himself.
