EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — It's hard to believe May is already upon us, which means Mother's Day is fast approaching.

Here's a look at the fun and rewarding ways to celebrate the Sunday holiday across Southern California.

Art fair

Located at 1600 Ivar Ave., the Hollywood Farmers' Market features 150 vendors and is open every Sunday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Visitors can reserve a free ticket to the market's upcoming holiday art fair here.

Botanical gardens

Weather is expected to be pleasant this weekend, which means outdoor activities could be in the cards for your family. The following SoCal landmarks will be open but may require advance tickets for a Sunday visit:

  • Descanso Gardens in La Cañada Flintridge
  • South Coast Botanic Garden in Palos Verdes Peninsula
  • The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino
  • The Arboretum and Botanical Garden at Cal State Fullerton

Brunch and dining

The following brunch staples will be open for Mother's Day service:

  • Mission Inn Hotel & Spa in Riverside
  • The Langham Huntington in Pasadena
  • The Queen Mary in Long Beach

Special dinner menus will also be available Sunday at plenty of restaurants across the region, such as Redbird in downtown Los Angeles, The Front Yard in North Hollywood and The Lonely Oyster in Echo Park.

Flea market

The Melrose Trading Post is held at Fairfax High School every Sunday — including this year's Mother's Day — from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. In addition to a wide variety of clothing and accessories for sale, the flea market also hosts food trucks and live music. Click here to purchase tickets.

Live comedy

If you and Mom love a good laugh, the Netflix is a Joke Festival is currently underway in LA and will feature standup performances on Sunday. Click here to see the schedule.

Outdoor moviegoing

If you and your family are film buffs, Cinespia will screen the hit film "Mamma Mia!" on Friday at LA State Historic Park. Tickets can be purchased here.

Theater

And lastly, if you need to escape the Sunday sunshine for a few hours, "A Noise Within" might just be the literal ticket for you. Starting this month, the landmark East Pasadena theater will be hosting performances of "Misalliance," a comedic show that explores current events. Click here to purchase tickets for Sunday's preview performance at 2 p.m.
