LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles-based artist Luis Castaneda Zacarias has found a sense of community and mental wellness through Painted Brain, a mental health organization that uses art groups to support those who have lived through mental health challenges.
He has been in jail three times and found Painted Brain through the organization’s restoration program.
Painted Brain was one of the community partners represented at the first Mental Health Fest and Walk by the Greater Los Angeles arm of nonprofit National Alliance on Mental Illness, or NAMI for short, which aims to provide free mental health resources for those who need them.
