LOS ANGELES (CNS) — The new fantasy film Monster Hunter, based on a series of video games and starring Milla Jovovich, knocked The Croods: A New Age from the top spot at the box office this weekend, opening with $2.2 million, according to industry estimates released Sunday.

The Croods was second with $2 million in its fourth week of release amid reduced theater capacity due to the coronavirus pandemic, Comscore reported.

The thriller Fatale opened with $925,000 for third place Friday through Sunday at theaters in the United States and Canada.

The comedy Half Brothers was fourth with $260,000, followed by The War With Grandpa with $169,730.

Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore, were Freaky ($165,000), Come Play ($110,000), The Muppet Christmas Carol ($92,000), All My Life ($70,000), and Honest Thief ($66,000).

Indoor movie theaters in Southern California are closed indefinitely due to the pandemic, leaving only limited outdoor screenings.
