The City of Palmdale is advocating for design changes to the California High Speed Rail, in the hopes of minimizing the impact on the community -- especially on traffic.

Mayor Jim Ledford said he likes the idea of placing the rail track below ground.

"We think one of the answers is to completely trench the entire train system -- put it below grade. So instead of these massive overpasses -- that take out the right of way for far beyond just the crossing," said Ledford.

Ledford said he recently went to Sacramento, attending a board meeting and sitting down with the chairman and CEO of the rail project to talk about those ideas.

The city council is expected to review and approve his expenses for that trip at Wednesday night's meeting, Ledford said.
