Columbus, OH -- Rematches and familiar faces make up the headlines for the OHSAA football playoffs on Spectrum News 1. Friday night, beginning at 7pm, we’ll bring you live state semifinal action from around the state.

Viewers in Northeast Ohio will see St. Edward battle Mentor at Euclid High School. The Cardinals were 42-39 winners against the Eagles back in week one of the regular season, and have won five of the last 8 meetings. This will be the sixth time the last nine years two these powers have collided in the playoffs. Mentor won 21-13 in a regional semifinal a year ago, while St. Edward was victorious (34-10) in a 2015 regional semifinal, on the way to a state title.

One year ago, Mentor fell in the Division I state championship to Pickerington Central. The Tigers repeat hopes are still alive, as they make a trip to Gahanna to take on Hilliard Davidson, which is what viewers in Central Ohio will see. Back on September 21, the Wildcats lost their only game of the season, in heart-breaking fashion, as Pickerington Central took a 17-14 overtime decision in Hilliard.

Colerain and Elder renew acquaintances at Mason for the first time in three years, in our featured game in Southwest Ohio. It marks the ninth post-season meeting since 2000, with the Cardinals and Panthers splitting the first eight. Elder beat Colerain in the playoffs in 2002 and 2003 on the way to a state title, while Colerain returned that favor in 2004.
