DAYTON – Around 100 police officers in Dayton are using a device that might help with stress reduction.

The Alpha-Stim, available by prescription in U.S., is a device that sends electrical waveforms to cells in the body. The signal returns cells to their normal state which reduces pain, anxiety, depression, or insomnia without medication.

  • Device has been around for decades
  • Can reduce stress, anxiety & depression
  • Available with a prescription

The device is manufactured by Electromedical Products International and has been around for several decades. Recently it's being tested on first responders and the Dayton Police Department is the first major metro area to test the device.

Regulated the Food and Drug Administration, Alpha-Stim has already proven success in treating pain in millions of Americans. It's also used with military members and veterans to treat PTSD.

The device can be used to not only treat pain and reduce stress, but it can reduce anxiety and limit depression.

EPI hopes the Dayton results will create more awareness to law enforcement that such a device is available.

Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl applauds the Fraternal Order of Police for taking part in the study.

“An important part of this study is to really get a better sense of how well this technology works and how well it is utilized by those in public safety,” Biehl told Spectrum News.

Biehl said stress levels are high in police work especially with recent events across the United States in the last several years. He believes reducing stress and monitoring officers' mental health can have effects not only for the public, but the officers.

“If we really want police officers to have a full career, work until retirement, and be health when they retire, we have to invest more in wellness.”

Biehl hopes the Alpha-Stim is a device that can support law enforcement moving forward.

EPI has conducted more than 100 clinical trials for more than three decades.
