OHIO — Four southern Ohio counties are under a State of Emergency following a declaration from Gov. Mike DeWine.
The declaration was made for Lawrence, Jackson, Pike and Scioto counties after severe weather caused high winds, flooding, power outages and downed trees on Friday, Sept. 27.
"This declaration of a State of Emergency will give the State the ability to expedite assistance to these communities," said DeWine in a news release. "We will continue to monitor needs and help communities in southern Ohio recover from the damage and remove large amounts of debris from the recent storm event."
Severe weather came as Hurricane Helene pushed onto land, at one point knocking out power for 130,000 people in Ohio.
Ohio's Emergency Management Agency is engaging with the counties to determine needs and provide aid. County Emergency Management Agencies remain in contact with Ohio EMA to monitor developments and offer help.
Governments who need aid should contact their county's EMA, which can be found here.
