They will be inducted on Sept. 22 and will be honored at the Giants’ game.

The release states both inductees came to the team in 1999 and built a friendship. Over the years, Donovan called the kicks Dawson made for the team.

“It would be awesome to go in with anyone, but a guy that you came in together with, a guy that you consider a friend, a guy that you appreciate, a guy you respect, a guy that you benefit from what he did. He was so supportive of me through the years and was always so kind to myself and my family,” Dawson said in the release. “I mean, to get to go in with a friend just adds this really special layer to it and reflects what I’m most grateful for in my time in Cleveland is, and it’s the relationships that I had with the people at Cleveland. And Jim is towards the top of that list.”

Donovan recently announced that he would no longer be calling Browns games on the Browns Radio Network due to his cancer returning.

“I’ve gone through every treatment imaginable,” he had said in the statement. “But my cancer is a defiant opponent and has returned and very aggressively. This will require me to devote everything I have in me to continue the fight and my family and I are committed to doing that.”

Dawson said this award is a “we award” and not a “me award.” While he’s clearly glad that he and Donovan are being inducted together, he said he hopes people keep the focus on Donovan and celebrate him.

“I was just one of many players trying to do his job,” he said in the release. “There was only one Jim Donovan. So, I’m thrilled that he’s going to be going in with me.”
