COLUMBUS, Ohio — Temperatures are expected to hit above 90 degrees in the Columbus area starting Sunday, so the city is planning to open cooling centers at five regional community centers to help residents cool off.

From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., the following cooling centers will be open starting Monday until the extreme heat subsides:

  • Dodge Community Center, 667 Sullivant Ave.
  • Driving Park Community Center, 1100 Rhoads Ave.
  • Glenwood Community Center, 1888 Fairmont Ave.
  • Linden Community Center, 1350 Briarwood Ave.
  • Marion Franklin Community Center, 2801 Lockbourne Rd.

Additonally, the city is extending hours at pools and spraygrounds starting Monday.

Seven outdoor pools will be open from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. The $1 admission will also be waived until temperatures cool down.

"Capacity limits may be enforced, and everyone is asked to follow all rules and staff instructions to ensure the safety of residents and staff. A free Leisure Card is still needed for admission, and proper swim attire is required," the city warned in a release.

The Blackburn, Linden, North Bank and Scioto Southland spraygrounds will be open daily from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will continue to be free to use.
