Ohio -- Slot machine revenue at Ohio's seven racinos hit a record this past fiscal year - collecting 987 Million Dollars

after payouts.  While people may go for the slots, they're staying for the races, and that is reviving a

once-struggling industry.

Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course just celebrated it fourth year.

It’s common to see a pretty good crowd both at the video lottery terminals and at the tracks for thoroughbred horse racing.

Vice President of Racing Operations Mark Loewe has witnessed the horse racing resurgence in Ohio after more than a decade of decline.

"Certainly it's getting better from a horseman's perspective.  They have the opportunity to race for enough money now to

continue to make a living in the sport.  And no question about it, there's been a resurgence because of the gaming,

video lottery terminals, monies that have supplemented the purses are what's making the industry successful at this point."

Hollywood Racino hosts horse races four days a week.  And the prize money is up 25% this year, to $120,000 daily.

Loewe says Ohio is the place to be for jockeys.

And if sports betting is approved in Ohio in the next couple years, Loewe says that will only draw more folks to the racino.
