Columbus, OH -- A new winter weather warning will be showing up this year in Ohio.

  • Snow Squall Warnings New to Ohio
  • Intense Bursts of Heavy Snow
  • Reduced Visibility

The National Weather Service will be issuing "Snow Squall Warnings" for the first time in Ohio.

Snow squalls are intense bursts of heavy snowfall along with gusty winds that can reduce visibility to zero.

Last year, a snow squall caused an eighty car pile up in Morrow County on Interstate 71.  Once a snow

squall warning is issued, road conditions could become dangerous very quickly.

Snow squalls are typically short lived and don't appear with a major storm, so they are more difficult

to predict.  Even though they proudce very little snowfall, they are often much more dangerous than a

big snow storm that could drop several inches of snow.
