BRISTOL, Conn. - For this week's Trip on a Tankful, we are headed to Bristol, Conn. to visit America's oldest amusement park, Lake Compounce.

If you're leaving from Chicopee, it takes about an hour to get there. From Worcester, it takes about 1.5 hours and nearly two hours from the Berkshires.

Lake Compounce has been around for 175 years. There's an amusement park side and a water park side. It's the largest water park in Connecticut.

"We opened in 1846. We started originally as a science experiment. A scientist decided that he wanted to try and blow up the lake here at Lake Compounce, and people came from all over the place to watch him attempt to blow up the lake. He did not succeed but we became a picnic park after that and grew into an amusement park," said Lynsey Winters, Regional Public Relations Manager at Lake Compounce.

Tickets get you both admission to the amusement park and the water park. You can buy them at the gate, but there are deals for buying them online. Tickets can be purchased at lakecompounce.com.
