WORCESTER, Mass. - The effort to keep downtown Worcester looking beautiful and clean takes another step forward.

On Friday, the Downtown Worcester Business Improvement District (BID) had new cigarette disposal receptacles installed throughout the district by the Worcester Department of Public Works and Parks.

In total, there will be 24 receptacles installed.

The continued initiative aims to keep streets and sidewalks clean while also bringing attention to important quality of life issues for those living, working and visiting the area.

"We're seeing a lot more people in downtown Worcester. And so one of the things that we're focusing on is just the little aspects to make downtown Worcester cleaner and safer,” said Downtown Worcester BID executive director, Eveyln Darling. “And so this is part of our larger initiative, beautification initiative to make downtown Worcester just really shine."

The effort also includes installation of seven dog waste containers.
